Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, who was a housewife and Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. When she was 12 she was already appearing on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording for a small label as well as performing at the Grand Ole Opry. After graduating from the high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to launch her country-singing career. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving entrepreneur, fell for her and they were married on May 30th the 30th of May, 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and hired her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). The show aired for seven years, her duets gained fame and she was part of Porter Wagoner's band at the Grand Ole Opry. She also sold records and toured. The hit song from her 1970 album "Joshua" hit the top spot at #1, her fame was just too big to be able to compete with the fame of his. In 1974, she toured alone and recorded duets alongside his. She quit him to pursue her own career in 1974. Dolly was a well-known songwriter/singer. Dolly was awarded numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-70, 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). She was a petite (5'0") beauty who was an ideal choice for television. The mid-1970s saw Dolly was often appearing on talk-shows and specials on TV before being given her own show Dolly (1976). Dolly got her first Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come Again". Dolly made her debut in a film in 9 to 5, the year 1980. The film received nominations for an Oscar for the title song, as well as Grammy awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. The fame continued to grow with her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), as along with Rhinestone (1984) in which she sang the hit song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire that is worth $100 million. In 1986, she established Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was to commemorate her Smoky Mountain childhood. In the TV show of 1987, Dolly She was the main character herself. In the episode "Trio" she was awarded the Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
